As far as many top ranked graduate programs are concerned, they will never be left with a lack of highly-qualified applicants. Year in and year out, top graduate schools are flooded with more prospective applicants than they can possibly admit.
Let’s check the numbers for University of Michigan, one of the top ranked grad programs in psychology in the nation. Their official website states that while their number of applicants varies from year-to-year, typically less than 5% of all applicants are admitted to their Clinical Psychology program. For example, last year there were well over 300 applicants (to the Clinical Psychology area alone!) and only SIX students were admitted.
How do you like those numbers? Other top grad programs in psychology report similar admissions rates. University of California-Berkeley’s website states that they received 641 applications last year – and only 36 students were admitted to the program. For Clinical Science (UC-Berkeley’s answer to Clinical Psychology), the graduate admissions rate was 2.9% .
The major focus of this website is not only to offer key information, advice, and tips to get you into your top choice graduate program in psychology, but to provide strategies on how to get accepted to the top ranked programs. What makes this an authority site? Not only have I advised and counseled students on how to get into graduate school, but I count myself among the select 5% who were able to gain admission to a top ranked graduate program.
Trust me, there were many mistakes made along the way – in fact, I applied to grad school three different times before I finally received a single acceptance letter. Looking back, I had a lot of misconceptions about getting into graduate school and lacked the know-how of successful applicants, but I finally got it right. And not only did I get it right, I got accepted to a top ranked graduate program.
